Chinese BBQ Pork Fried Rice

Chinese BBQ Pork or Char Siu as it is called is a dish of roast pork marinated in a sweet and savoury sauce, typically served sliced into thin strips. Sometimes, it’s about cutting the strips into chopped pieces and throwing it into another dish.

Char Siu is just so much like bacon! I gotta admit that the two main (actually two only) reasons I have not become a vegetarian is because I love Char Siu (and it’s variation of Bak Kwa) and I love bacon!!!! These are two things I crave for unless I get my regular dosage of.

Anyway, let’s talk about the Char Siu Fried Rice. You can make it vegetarian or you can make Chicken Fried Rice, but if you have the option then at some point you will need to try this.



So this is a day old rice from the refrigerator and it is cooked with the Homemade Vegetable Stock I wrote about yesterday.


So, here are the ingredients


3 Cups Flavoured Rice
5 cloves Garlic – chopped
1 onion – chopped
Bok Choy
Green Peas
2 eggs – lightly beaten
Light Soy Sauce

*I have not given any measurements to the vegetables because you can add as many or as little as you please 

So first to saute the onions and garlic, then add the vegetables. after a few minutes add the char siu and the peas and mix till combined.
Add in the light soy sauce. I do not add any dark sauce because I really don’t want to ruin the beautiful colours of the meat and vegetables.

Mix in the rice once the vegetables are cooked and creating a well in the centre, add the eggs (add a bit of salt or soy sauce to flavour the eggs)
When the egg has set slightly, stir the rice and the eggs.

Ta-da! That’s it! I kid you not when I say I love cooking but I DO NOT LOVE long hours in the kitchen. My recipes are always quick to prep and easy to make.
So I have served this with some roasted pork I got from the same stall at the meat market. There is no such thing as too much meat for my hubby or my sons.
