Why again?, you ask? Well, I have written posts about everything I have learnt and taught. All tried and tested with endless research by many home management gurus.
Here, today I want to share something totally without corroboration. It is something that happened rather accidentally at first and then I used it as an extension to all the established systems and tips.
As you all know, I have been having the unfortunate experience of clearing my mother’s things after her demise.
I used all the methods I wrote about in the earlier article on decluttering sentimentals. But, there came a point when I was overwhelmed. Here’s what happened. I just gathered all the decisions I was unable to make, and put them away with my own belongings. I crammed things into cabinets and storage solutions and stopped looking at it.
However, I found it very inconvenient to get things out of those cluttered cabinets and even broke a piece in my struggle to reach an item at the back!
I decided to stop procrastinating and get into it.
And to my surprise, it was easier. I had each category in a space, a very cluttered space but everything was collected. I honestly do not remember if half the items were mine or my mum’s.
At this point, it was just about what I needed, what might be handy (within reason) and what I didn’t need at all.
Now, I have a mix of our things but everything is practical and functional.
This additional step has been a blessing for me. After successfully decluttering the kitchen, I also used this method for scarves, shawls, winter clothing and linen.
I would love to know your thoughts on this step and if anyone will corroborate it.
Lots of love
