TEN Qualities of a Homemaker

Just like applying for a certain job, you need certain qualities. You will need to fit the shoe, have the necessary skills and meet the criteria.

I know some women have fallen into the role by circumstances, but as long as you are caring for the family, you might as well improve yourself to do a more satisfactory job!

So, what then are the most important characteristics of a Homemaker?

1. Intelligence
   No need to join Mensa. It’s basic intelligence. The homemaker should use her/his intelligence in solving problems in every-day life.

Intelligence is required in some tasks like proper selection and purchase of materials for the house, money management, care and up-bringing of children, solving the problems related to health and hygiene. Intelligence helps in solving a problem and reaching the goal.

2. Enthusiasm
   Don’t hate homemaking! Don’t do tasks grudgingly.

Enthusiasm is one of the mental qualities of a homemaker. This quality is a result of good mental and physical health.

Enthusiasm helps a person to become interested in an activity and stimulates to higher levels of proficiency. Enthusiastic mother becomes an example to others.

3. Sympathetic and Humane
   The homemaker should have the power of understanding. He/she should be sympathetic towards all the members of the family as well as servants and others who are coming in contact with her.

Understanding of human nature is an indispensable quality for successful home management. This quality would help the homemaker to recognize the individual needs of the family members. She/he can easily solve the various family problems.

4. Imagination
   Imagination is an essential quality of homemaker. It promotes one to visualise situations make plans, can see the result a certain plan of action before they are actually carried out.
5. Judgement
   The homemaker must have the power of judgement because it is an important factor in all managerial activities. It is the quality that helps one to be fair in various situations.
6. Perseverance
   The persevering person does not sit idle or give up his/her effort until the results are achieved. This quality plays an important role in the achievement of family goals.
7. Adaptability
   The ability to adapt oneself to different conditions and circumstances of life is an essential quality for every homemaker.
   Success in meeting daily problems depends upon this quality of adaptability.
8. Self Management
   Similar to self care. This quality is required for the home maker as well as all the family members. Self-control will help a homemaker to face difficult situations in life.
   She or he must plan their work, include rest periods and use work simplification methods in order to avoid unnecessary fatigue.
9. Resourcefulness
   The homemaker must have the capacity to handle and use resources in their best possible ways.
   A resourceful homemaker is able to overcome problems in various spheres. They are competent enough to find alternate and imaginative solutions to any problem.
10. Ability of Communicate
    Homemaking involves good communication with others. It is essential in working with others and putting the plans into action.

The homemaker is a role model for the family. By positive qualities, we can teach the other members about the need and importance of co-operation, tolerance, politeness love sympathy etc. for the benefit and well being of the family. Good qualities of a homemaker can help to manage the home efficiently and to give happiness, satisfaction and security to all the members of the family.
